fried green tomatoes
It's been an unusually cool summer here in Ohio. We have a large garden full of beautiful tomatoes, but they are all green! And yet I hadn't even thought about making fried green tomatoes until my husband's boss mentioned it...
A day later, Jerel's boss sent him home from work with a few wonderful green tomatoes, and there was only one thing to do! We'd make fried green tomatoes!
I have eaten these a few times before, once while I was in Georgia at Paula Deen's restaurant! I remember them being crispy and salty. Yum!
The recipe is simple. Just mix some salt, pepper, and a dash or two of cayenne pepper with cornmeal. Dredge the sliced tomatoes into the cornmeal mixture until coated. Then fry the slices in vegetable oil until one side is golden brown, and then flip over and fry the other side. Drain the fried tomatoes on paper towels and sprinkle liberally with salt. Enjoy!

Sounds like it is a cold summer everywhere, even here in KY. I love fried green tomatoes. In KY they make eggs benedict with them as a base instead of english muffins. That's very tasty.
