our garden!
We have a small area next to our house that we use as a garden. Last year we were told "you will never be able to grow anything in that soil", we won't mention any names :) but man was he wrong! We had so many vegetables we didn't know what to do with them. We were absolutely thrilled!
This year we are hopeful that we'll have just as many wonderful herbs and veggies, if not more. We went with our friends Brad and Sarah to the Crown Point Organic Plant Sale to buy our starter plants. We had so much success with them last year that we didn't even think of going anywhere else.
We came home and prepared the soil...we tilled the existing soil and added plenty of fresh organic garden soil. Recently we started vermicomposting so soon we hope to add some of the rich compost that will result from that adventure.
Then, we got to work! Last year I think we over-crowded some of the plants, so we made sure to give each plant plenty of room to grow. We used more containers this year, for mostly herbs and peppers, and placed those on the deck.
(during our planting we heard a strange noise above us. it was the blimp! a pretty common occurrence when you live in Akron! )
We've officially planted all of our garden except for some beans I started inside. I still need to find a home for them.
In our garden we have MANY varieties of tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, lettuce, zucchini, a watermelon, beets, swiss chard, blueberries, and tons of herbs!
We're so excited about our garden this year! Once we have something from our garden that we can eat or cook, we will be sure to post about it right away!
